Cupping Therapy
You might have heard of this treatment over recent years in the media, with several sports people and celebrities being seen with the infamous round shaped ‘bruising’ on their bodies, but there are records showing this techniques being used as early as 1,500 BC but the ancient Egyptian, Chinese and Middle Eastern cultures.
Cupping therapy involves special cups (i use a mixture of glass and silicon cups and not fire cupping), being placed on the body to create suction over a painful area or along the energy meridians to help improve the energy flow. These can be left on for several minutes or moved for a deep tissue massage. When left for a long amount of time, this is when the ‘bruising’ can occur, although this is normal and not really bruising. Theses marks can last upto a few days but mostly go down within a few hours.
