Reiki

The word Reiki comes from the Japanese words “rei” (universal) and “ki” (life energy) and is an ancient technique that treats the whole person including the body, emotions, mind and spirit. The treatment has many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.

Reiki- “a healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient's body and restore physical and emotional well-being”- Oxford English Dictionary

According to ancient practice, energy can stagnate in the body where there has been physical injury or possibly emotional pain. In time, these energy blocks can cause illness. A Reiki treatment works on energy healing, which targets the energy fields around the body. Although described as a ‘healing’ treatment, the therapist is not trained to diagnose conditions or claim that they can treat any health conditions. There is no ‘hard set’ routine as the treatment will be guided by what the client needs at that particular time. Reiki is suitable for anyone to have done and clients are fully clothed during the treatment. It is generally performed laying down but can be performed seated if there is a mobility issue. The client can also have the option of the therapist laying their hands on them or have the treatment where the therapist hovers their hands over the body.

The treatment is generally more effective if the client has not consumed any stimulants (alcohol, caffeine etc) for a minimum of 12 hours before treatment and will be recommended to avoid these for a minimum of 24 hours after treatment to allow the ‘healing’ to continue.
